Beaumont Win Summer League Cup 2009!

Summer League Cup Winners 09

After a long wait we have finally got our hands on the Summer League Cup. We started the game well and Yasser was a constant threat for the Shadwell defence and it was his powerful shot that was saved into the path of Bari for him to get the first goal. Yasser could have scored on the 30th Minute mark when his powerful shot hit the post and somehow stayed out. Shadwell started to come into the game at that point and had good possesion of the ball but failed to convert possesion into goalscoring chances. Anton then hit a 30 yard free kick into the top corner to give Beaumont the 2-0 lead. Second half and shadwell started the stronger side and with 15 minutes remaining they got the reward Ben scoring to give them a lifeline. Ben should have equalised with 8 minutes remaining beating the offside trap and going round Beaumont keeper Jason but he delayed his shot on goal and Mash managed to put his tackle in. Beaumont were always going to be a threaton the counter attack with the pace upfront and another free kick went goal bound for Beaumont from Yasser, keeper Helal saved it into the path of Shofie for him to get Beaumont's third. Polash could have scored another for beaumont into injury time but Helal was upto the task. First appearance in the summer league cup final ended in victory for us.

Dubai Tour Dubai Tour

Manager Mamun Chowdhury said, " The tour gave oppurtunities to players to play against teams in Dubai, many have travelled to Dubai in the past for Holidays but this is the first these players have actually played football in Dubai. A very rare experience playing in temparatures of 30c and above. Everyone had a really good time and a experience to treasure".

Mamun Chowdhury Recieves MBE

Mamun Chowdhury MBEALL over the country, there are countless individuals who have put in hard work over the years to make sure Asians embrace the beautiful game. Today, there is a thriving Asian football scene at grassroots level, where thousands of players and teams play in structured, organised leagues and progress up the ladder of the semi-professional football scene. The people who helped to encourage desis to go from kicking a ball in the park to playing in big tournaments at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge and Celtic Park, are often forgotten. But once in a while, they are recognised and rewarded for the part they have played in helping Asians in football. One of these individuals is Mamun Chowdhury, who was awarded an MBE for voluntary service to Asian community football in east London. The 31-year-old was one of the founders of Beaumont Athletic, a team based in the borough of Tower Hamlets in east London and one of the few predominantly Asian teams to achieve senior status. The team was started in 1993 by a group of students from Stepney Green school and played in local tournaments before joining the Asian Football League and then moving towards getting senior status.

For Chowdhury, the MBE was an unexpected surprise. He got the letter confirming it during the Christmas period and will receive it in February. "It's a proud moment for me and my family," he told Eastern Eye. "It's a big thing for the Asian community as a whole. It's good to see a lot of Asian people get awards like this."
